How fast will I receive my ramp?
We usually ship orders the same day up until 5PM Pacific Time. We use both UPS and Fedex. Shipment time depends on your zip code. Please see the UPS Ground shipment time map or the Fedex Ground shipment time map for more details.

How do I choose my ramp's length?
Find the total vertical rise you are trying to climb and the maximum allowable incline of your chair, then go to our ramp selection page to calculate the ramp length you need.

Where can I find the maximum allowable incline for my chair?
Usually in the "Warning" section of your chair's user's manual.

I can't find the maximum allowable incline for my chair. What should I do?
You can contact your wheelchair dealer or manufacturer. Also our wheelchair selection page might help.

How to I know if a ramp is too steep for my chair?
If any of the following happens:

  1. The wheels are spinning but the chair is not going up.
  2. The anti-tipping wheels, if present, hit the ramp.
  3. The bottom of your chair scratches the ramp near the top.
  4. The center wheels are lifted off the ground (for 6-wheel chairs).

Why do I have to secure my chair inside my vehicle? How can I do it?
You need to secure your chair because applying the chair's brakes alone will lock its wheels but will not prevent it from sliding during acceleration or deceleration. What you need to do to effective secure it depends on how you drive. Frequently used methods are:

  1. Tie your chair to your vehicle's seats.
  2. Put wheel chocks, available at most auto parts stores, under your chair's wheels.
  3. Put bricks under your chair's wheels.

Can I use your ramps on the rear door of my vehicle?
Yes. Our customers have used our ramps to load wheelchairs and scooters into the back of just about every van and SUV. In all cases, the top of the ramp will sit on the rear bumper or the rear door (if down). You will need to make sure the back door opening is tall enough for the chair to get in.

To protect the paint on the bumper, we recommend you cover the bumper with a piece of carpet or a floormat before you put the ramp on it.

A few full-size SUV's have huge cutouts on their rear bumpers. For example, with the Cadillac Escalade, the cutout is actually more than 30 inches wide (see picture below). In those cases, in order to use the ramp, you would need to put a piece of at least 3/4 inch thick plywood, typically 2ft wide by 4ft long, on top of the bumper cutout to cover it up. Then you should be able to use the ramp on the plywood nicely. You might also want to put a thin piece of carpet down underneath the plywood between the plywood and the bumper in order to protect the paint on the bumper.

How do I know my ramp won't slip off the steps?
The ramp has a pair of specially designed lips on its head and ground bevels on its foot. The lips will securely lock onto any flat surface on the upper landing or steps. The ramp's weight, and whatever is on it, will hold it in place. The lips also have anchor holes that you can use to further secure the ramp with either screws or ropes.

How easy is it to lock the 2 pieces of your 2-piece ramp together?
It's a snap and similar in form to putting a glove on your hands. Most customers can do it at night without even seeing it.

How do I measure the door width of my van?
If your van comes with two side doors, always measure the door on the curb or passenger side because it's usually larger than the door on the driver's side. As long as you have 30 inches or more on the door threshold where the ramp will be loaded, you'll be able to use our ramps.

Can you name a few minivans that do not have a 30 inch door opening?
The Toyota Sienna, Honda Odyssey, and Chrysler Town and Country (some years).

How can I get my power wheelchair over the door frame in the back of my SUV?
If the door frame rises above the floor to the point where it becomes an obstacle for your wheelchair, you will need to raise the floor. The picture below shows a wooden shipping palette used in the back of Buick Rendezvous SUV to raise the floor. A 7-foot LiteRamp™ was laid crossways on the palette to give added support.

Does my ramp need any maintenance?
Our 2-piece ramps use two pairs of special hinges. It is a good idea to lubricate the hinge pins occasionally with a good quality penetrating oil. You don't want to use WD-40 since it gums up over time. There is no maintenance requirement for our 1-piece ramps.

Can I use your 2-piece ramps without locking the pieces together?
No. You don't ever want to use the ramp unlocked. It is very hazardous to do so.

Can I repair the non-slip tape on my ramp?
Yes. A few gouge marks here and there are unlikely to cause traction problems. However, if a gouge mark is sufficiently large to cause the tape to start peeling there or if there is a 1/2 square inch or larger section of tape missing, you will want to repair it. You can get the non-skid tape either online or offline from many stores, including the Home Depot. Here are our step by step instructions on how to do the repair.
